3. How to convert long data format to wide format?

EasyData aims to provide official data with an easy to use interface to its users. We understand that this data may be used along with other data from different sources through different analytical tools. Most of such tools understand long data format instead of wide format. However, some users prefer to have data in wide format. Don't worry! transforming long data format to wide format is just a matter of few clicks using a ubiquitous MS-Excel. Below are the steps:

  1. Open the dataset downloaded from EasyData in Microsoft Excel.

  2. In Excel, select all data by pressing CTRL+A (holding down the CTRL key and press A).

  3. Go to Insert tab. Click on Pivot Table. A 'Create PivotTable' dialog box will appear.

  4. Click OK button by accepting all defaults settings. This will create a new sheet in Excel.

  5. Open the newly created sheet in Excel. You can see a pivot table control and its Fields control.

  6. From the PivotTable fields, drag 'Observation Date' and drop in the COLUMNS.

  7. Then from the PivotTable fields, drag 'Observation Value' and drop in the VALUES.

  8. Then from the PivotTable fields, drag 'Sequence No.' and drop in the ROWS.

  9. Now, from the PivotTable fields, drag 'Series Name.' and drop in the ROWS. You are now ready with wide data format.

4. How to compare two or more variables on a chart?

To compare one or more variables, you first need to create a data basket by using “My Data Basket” option of EasyData. Please see our other 'How To' on how to create a data basket.
